Benny Medina, then head of A&R at Motown told Rick to give it to the MJG's because they needed a hit for their 2nd album. Rick had JoJo re-sing the lead and background vocals. I know because I was in the studio at the time. Jojo did 99% of all singing. I still have Val's version on tape somewhere, will try to post it.
