  • crate training for IG's is the best thing for them.

they are just as bad as 2yr olds and will put anything in there mouth, this isn't cruel as you are making it out to seem.

as crjoker said they see there crate as there home and and will go in and out as they please.

please think before you speak, it will go a long way.

  • I have three IGs. If you don't crate train them at this age they will bounce off the walls and can break a leg. Crating them for a few hours a day when they are puppies helps with potty training and it helps calm them down. They also learn to see their crate as home and are better adjusted for times when you have to leave the house. Once they are over a year old, you can take the door off the crate and they will use it as a house.

    Faved.

  • IG's or not, any dog will take about 2 days to decide the crate is their bed & safe place. I have used fully enclosed crate with GSD's, Jack R's & it works great. After a month or so you can take the door off & they will still go to it to sleep or escape kids, fireworks, thunder ect. It's a den. I used a smaller one with a top & put a blanket on top. For smaller dogs pack it out with boxes to suit size. Sleeping in a den is natural behavior. To be honest I think this one might be too big!
