  • Over time, you'll learn small things about it like when you want to preview a song, just hover over it with the cursor and it'll automatically start playing. The dock is called Avant Window Manager and the desktop effects are controlled by an open-source composting manager called Compiz-fuzion which is built into Ubuntu. Take the time to learn a few Linux commands and you'll be a Linux expert within months. Don't keep Windows in a separate partition. Trust me. Dive head-first into Ubuntu.

  • Click it, let it install (which will take about 4 hours) and eventually when it's done, it'll reboot itself and when you return back to yourdesktop, you'll never be able to tell that you just majorly upgraded your OS. All your settings and files will stay intact. I bet you wish Windows operated like that 'eh? ;) Your specs are awesome, so Ubuntu should run like butter anyways.

  • Don't bother waiting. Download the LiveCD, burn it to a disc, put it in your drive, turn your comp off, turn it back on, boot into Ubuntu 8.04, click 'install', select your partition info and such, and then let it install. Once it's done, you'll have a clean install of Hardy Heron. When the new version comes out, open a Terminal window and type in 'update-manager -d' without the quotes of course and then you should see a small message that says the new version of Ubuntu is out.

  • Somebody please send me a message, or comment on this video explaining how to do this. I have a XPS m1330 (2.2 Core 2/4GB/160GB/2 24" Panels) running on Vista, and I HATE IT. I cant even play a DVD without it skipping. I'd go back to XP, but it forgets my monitor drivers and has a weird video thing that drives me nuts...I'm waiting for the new ubuntu (10 days...woot) I see tons happening (eye candy) in this video, none of which I understand, but I LOVE IT. Please help.

  • Nice video, I have done almost all that to my PC. Now.. I was looking for a video that shows adding a Windows program icon to the Ubuntu, and when you click it, the windows program will run in the Ubuntu Window. How Could I do that? do you know? thanks in advance,
