  • @manniemain The piano at the tower did come from the opera house, yep, as did a few other things like the tuba marabillis, and the xylophone!

  • @longylayton

I think the piano in the Tower Ballroom was poached from the Opera House after the 1956 fire. Can someone confirm this?

  • A lovely instrument ...and a wonderful sound. Nice also to see that extra touch to presentation of a WurliTzer...a nice slow lift. The lift under the Tower WurliTzer is far too fast !

  • le rêve!!!!! ;-) :-)

  • Blame Mr. Dixon!!

  • A superb concert, shame there is not piano attachment.

  • Hi,

Surprised to see this!!! I'm Cameron Lloyd, one of the team who got the organ back up and running for this years concerts.

Weekdays were the days given to us for concerts, so apologies to those who couldn't make it!!

There were just under 600 in the audience, one of the best attendances in recent times, except for Tooting in 2007.

Glad that people enjoyed it and hope to see you at some, if not all, of the concerts this year. Come and say hello!!

    Kind Regards,

    Cameron.

  • I attended, excellent as always Phil !

  • I too was fortunate enough to attend this historic concert, being seated just four rows behind the organ, with an amazing view. This was the first time I had ever heard this magnificent instrument played live in it's (almost) original setting. The organ sounded wonderful and Phil Kelsall played a marvellous selection of music, which realy put the Wurlitzer through it's paces. Just from being there, you could tell how much everyone enjoyed it. I will certainly be attending the future shows.

  • I was at this concert it was well attended for a mid-week, the organ looked brilliant, Phil Kelsall as ever was magic. It should have been filmed to show a Wurlitzer in its original home.

They even had the console of the Empress Ballroom Wurlitzer on stage. It was brilliant.

  • I was there for this concert, it was well attended, the organ sounded amazing thanks to Stephen Tovey and his Gang. As always Phil Kelsall was the best, I for one am going to the other concerts

  • I was there for this concert, the organ sounded marvellous, the atmosphere was electric, Phil Kelsall was as always brilliant. It is well worth going to the others.

  • Brilliant!! wish I could have been there...organ sounding great!!

  • There were probably around 500 creating a really great atmosphere. Hope the other concerts are as well attended.

  • Thank you for sharing this. I only wish I could have been there, what an occasion!

  • Bravo! Shame it was on a weekday when a lot of folks had to go to work. Was there a good turnout for the concert???
