The oil filter on my Tige 21i just would not move. I tried all the typical tools to crank it off, but to no avail. I had to resort to cutting off the canister and fashioning a custom tool to remove the top of the filter which was still stuck onto the oil filter housing. The rubber seal had sort of welded to the metal housing and there was paint on the housing which should not have been there. That paint was affixed to the rubber seal also. This was a difficult and long task to remove the filter. The filter housing is now clean like it should have been and a new filter has been installed as per the conventional wisdom. I don't expect to encounter this issue again with this engine.

  • Hey all, Bogert Aviation Inc. (800)627-8088 has been selling a tool that does this job for about 15 years. It's only $14.95 and it works every time.

  • @Bogibar Cool. You guys should make a video to show how it works.

  • Great video.. I'm in same spot.. How did you cut the top half of the filter off?

  • @scottmed511 Mostly with left and right Wiss Sheet Metal Tinners Snips. It was not easy and took a long time. For some of it, I used pliers to "peel" the can away. You pretty much have to use whatever you have at hand + patience to get the job done. I worked on it on and off for two days.

  • at 2.47 the light bulb on top of my head came on, i was able to get channel locks around the very end of the filter squeezed and turned it bent very little and was able to turn would have never thought of that had i not seen this vid, thanks.

  • @pete226 Cool!

  • We tried something that worked pretty good. Instead of trying to tear the filter can apart, we punched a hole in the filter to drain out most of the oil and then we used a large hole saw to take the end of the filter out. We could just pull the cartridge out and then use the Bogert Aviation oil filter tool to remove the rest.

  • All credit to ya, that job looked like a right ball ache!

  • good idea on the homemade tool. :D

  • damn, i thought my was messed up

  • hey this vid pops on google 3rd link.
