Lyrics:

When the dying western sun dips low
And the raincloud rises in the east
Between the lines of truth and the words of faith
Lie the fiery duties of the priest

Stir the blood of ancient things
Drawing down the moon

From the hill of Tarna see the Beltane fires
And the silent Celtic kings await
From the midnight hour to the light of dawn
Feel the mountain tremble and your heart will shake

Stir the memories of the stones
We are drawing down the moon
In the circle of the old ways
Of the wicker man

Wicker man, wicker man
From the beacon hill
cast your fire on this land
Wicker man, wicker man
From the beacon hill
throw your ashes on our hands

Let the pendulum go
Let it sway away
Let the chimes ring out
On this solstice day

When the earth renews
When the seed reveals
When we are reborn
Every waking dream

When the earth renews itself
When the seed reveals itself
When the earth renews itself
When the seed reveals itself

When we are reborn
In every waking dream
Every tree and leaf
Every frozen stream
When the earth renews itself
When the seed reveals itself

When we are reborn
In every waking dream
Every tree and leaf
Every frozen stream
When the earth renews itself
When the seed reveals itself

  • "Recorded at Accident of Birth/Chemical Wedding sessions (I'm not sure, does anybody know?)"

Recording began in Accident of Birth sessions, Recording was unfinished for no apparent reason (even Dickinson says he is unsure why they did not finish it because it was one of the favorites of the band), recording completed during Chemical Wedding sessions.

  • @pryto Thanks ;)

  • This is better than the Maiden song called The Wicker Man, and it's lyrics are based on the (original!) movie too, awesome! xD

  • trumps up if you touth that that woud be the wickerman from brave new world

  • @Danimal77 Did you read my last comment? A previous post which has now been removed suggested the song is based on the terrible 2006 remake (also called The Wicker Man) starring Nic Cage. This cant be true as the song was written (but not released) until before the 2006 movie was released.

Iam well aware of the original movie and am no kid..

  • @lardonirdesco

You do realize that The Wicker Man came out in 1973 right? It's a CLASSIC BRITISH horror movie with Christopher Lee.... KIDS......

  • "In the circle of the old ways...let the chimes ring out on this solstice day."

  • This "Wicker Man" is strangely glorious and puts me in a trance. It's so understated and yet powerful. It's like a strange dream that you catch a glimpse of and rush to try and put down in words.

  • The b-sides, and other non album tracks are usually much better than to the ones he puts on the album.

  • @pyromaniarules According to Bruce it was Steve Harris who decided on the song title. It should be noted that the Bruce solo song hadn't been released yet when the Maiden song came out.

  • I never heard someone talk about spring in a more beautiful way. "When the earth renews itself, when the seed reveals itself" This song should have been viewed by more then 5 thousand people, a shame.

  • @willharrisbass Yeah I guessed that. the original quote from 6bruce6dickinson6 seems to have been removed. but in it they suggested that the song was inspired by the more recent movie.
