  • This is what I would call second gen ska because it's not just walking. Still old school but closer to 60's than 50's. I actually prefer that style. Nice palm muting, nice rhythm, catchy melody, very authentic.

  • @TheTypenator Thanks for you feedback! Yes, I was actually going for 60s sound and tried to emulate upright bass sound with the palm muting. I'm glad you like the tune! :)

  • This reallu sounds like polka to me, not ska or whatever oldshool ska! :D Sorry, maybe I'm wrong, but it makes me smile! :)

  • @spontanuss

Hello and thanks for you comment! This lesson is about the early style and emulation of upright sound of bass (which was played on early ska records). Check out band Skatalites - Ska Ska Ska for example to see which style this lesson is about.

    Cheers,

    Bogdan

  • The bass is definitely walking nicely (it was ripped right from Jazz when ska was invented) but the rhythm in the guitar and drums aren't stylistically accurate to the original Jamaican ska in this tune! Nice walk tho!

  • im here cuz of ska ... THIS! ... aint ska

  • @existenceisrelative That's correct; the bass playing is straight up Lloyd Brevitt but that canned track is not even close

  • It's not Ska!!!!

  • @spontanuss Its because the drum pattern is wrong, the bass playing is fine for ska here though.

  • Can i just get the tabs for this?

    this is awesome

  • @BogdanRadovic Man, he's right. With that backing track it's polka. Sounds almost like doo-wop or something.

  • u jammin.
