Competitive diving is one of the sports guaranteed to attract a large audience this year at the Summer Olympics in Beijing. Recreational diving is also a growing amateur sport in the U.S. Unfortunately, the joy of jumping off the diving board at the local swimming pool has too often been spoiled by a trip to the emergency room. VOA's Melinda Smith has details of a new study showing that at least 6,000 children are hurt every year in diving accidents.

  • Okay people, as a lifeguard, I feel I should stress that spinal injuries are serious and they happen because of idiotic people like @s2MaGiK and @NoHeejin thinking that nothing bad can happen. I see stupid parents try to make their 4 years old jump off the boards-- these injuries are not to be taken lightly.

  • @QASSAQQAS im glad the world is getting reorganized soon, so people like you can be removed from society you filthy ignorant bitch

  • Maybe if you fat basterds stop eating like pigs you will hav less accidents you fat pieces of american shit

  • @Carathio Cunt.

  • @walawala830 cushioned helmets.

  • those boards are Cheyney design

  • @walawala830 you're right what was I thinking...

  • @NoHeejin no they might hurt themselves with the hard helmets...

  • Let's just kids be kids...I mean if we listened all of these reports on sport injuries, kids shouldn't do a thing, only play in rooms full of cushions while wearing helmets...

  • I can tell her what she will feel 20 years down the road. But taking away the diving board, pools, play ground will NOT stop accidents.
