Song about a couple of Mill workers taking a local break for the only holiday week of the year. Wakes. Normally in July to August depending on which town in Lancashire you lived
The words for this song were written by Richard Pomfret and the tune was put to it by Stan Ellison. I have a recording of Stan singing this from about 1974 I'll see if I can put it up somehow.
Yes, It is a trad song - I heard it sung by few artists on the folk circuit with music and lyrics varying quite a bit, most with longer lyrics than Mikes version. My favourite version (and the only one I have a copy of) was by Fieldwork from their album "Make Me One With Everything".
Sorry this song is not by Mike, it is a traditional collected by Mike and recorded as uboat said on A Lancashire Lad. I recal lhearing someone else do a quite different version years ago on Picadilly Radio in Manchester.
I love this song, very well done by you sir. Thank you

Nice enough version, a bit crackly on the sound. Nice gutitar, vocals OKish but not quite there.
