Nazeer Magoga recorded this as goodwill greetings to the participants of the conference, "Indian Cinema Circuits: Diasporas, Peripheries and Beyond", held at the University of Westminister, London, from June 25-26, 2009. I participated at the conference and presented Nazeer's greetings to the audience.

Possibly the first fluent Hindi-speaking African. He is Nazeer Magoga from Kano City, Kano State, Nigeria. He learnt Hind from watching Hindi films from TV stations in Kano, Nigeria. By 2002 he was fluent enough to write a Hind-phrase book in Hausa, "Fassarar Indiyanci a Saukake", followed a year later by "Fassarar Wakokin Indiyanci A Saukake" (Hindi songs translated). By 2005 he had been give his own FM slot on Radio Kano with a program, "Mu Kewaya Indiya" (let's visit India) where he translates Hindi film songs for listeners. He represents the first product of Media Parenting which saw Hausa youth of Kano, Nigeria speaking Hindi due to the avalanche of Hindi films they watch on TV. In 2008 he was also given a TV slot on local CTV in Kano to visually translate the FM program. Nazeer has recorded a set of 10 songs for release as a CD album. All were in Hindi and were songs of the praises fo the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). He has also recorded a few songs for Kano-based politicians -- in Hindi. Since I have all the songs, I will see if I can upload some of them here. Incidentally, he has NEVER been to India (although would happily accept sponsored tour and speaking invitations), or even been to the cinema to see a film! All his Hindi influences were from watching TV -- so media effects theorists, here is food for thought!
