Background painting - Inspired by Kazuo Oga (and Hayao Miyazaki)

This is a gouache painting I made which I'm going to use as an animation background. The painting depicts a lane in the district of Moerenburg in the southern part of Holland. This background painting is part of a small animation experiment inspired by the wonderful creations of the Japanese filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki (Studio Ghibli) and the background artist Kazuo Oga. The experiment is currently in progress.

Man, I've been scouring the net far and wide to see the techniques used by Kazuo Oga and Miyazaki's background paintings. Gouache seems to be the most similar thing to the poster paint they use here in the US, unfortunately I can't find any books on how to pain with it or even the techniques to employ while using it.

now here is a mana right after my own heart. well done! pretty close to the miyazaki style. i love studio ghibli for all it's fine art. i am also working on a few matte paintings as well. since you live in the netherlands, you must know Michel Dudok de Wit?
