Background
This is a song I wrote in 1993. It's inspired by the Greek myth, 'Pygmalion and Galatea'. Pygmalion was an artist, disillusioned by love, who sculpted a statue of ivory, the likeness of a woman so beautiful, she seemed almost to be alive, and he fell completely in love with his creation. At the festival of Aphrodite, he prayed to the goddess to bring him a maiden like his ivory statue. Upon returning to his studio, he kissed the statue on the mouth, and to his great astonishment, she came to life. There are several paintings depicting the kiss between Pygmalion and Galatea, her white ivory body beginning to show the color of flesh, as she comes to life.
