Recorded in Copenhagen, Denmark, 1946
The waltz "Sangen om Warszawa" (The Song about Warsaw - Piosenka o mojej Warszawie) was an international hit from winter 1944-45. It was dedicated as a tribute to Poland and especially to the very devastated Warsaw. Warsaw was before WW2 one of the most beautiful cities in Central and Eastern Europe. In the Polish language the title is: "Piosenka o mojej Warszawie".
The composer Albert Harris (Born 1911 in Warsaw, died 1974 in USA) - alias Aaron Hekelman- was a popular Polish composer of dance music during 1930's. During WW2 Albert Harris lived in USSR, where he in 1944 composed this melody " Piosenka o mojej Warszawie". It became very popular in the Free World during winter 1944-45. " Piosenka o mojej Warszawie". was translated to Danish after the Liberation in 1945. 1946 it was recorded by several Danish bands and published on 78rpm records. This song became a big hit in Denmark, and these 78rpm recordings are still not that difficult to find in the Danish flea markets and second hand stores.

The straightest way to all Polish hearts (who still may know "something");
mine included.
All words of thanks seem to be too pale to express the meaning of that
thing and and emotion that may arise when listening....
Best greetings from... Berlin, M. !

Gribende sørgesang over den ødelagte polske hovedstad.
