This was one of the first songs I ever learned to lead, taught by Coy Ivey, who stood with me for several weeks as I lead before I was finally confident enough to do it on my own. Now this and 117 are my favorite to lead. :)
You do have lads with the same talent, if the RCC would just let them loose, and let the lads go for it, instead of being so heavy-handed with all the rules and regulations and decorum. You see what I mean?
This is absolutely great, inspiring: this English RC wd like to say, wish we had lads here with the leader's talent and enthusiasm, and choirs that could produce your rich vibrant multicoloured sound (Oh, those Altos!)and a happy social system where enjoyment, spiritual and physical exercize and worship all mesh as they do here. I Wish could dance round the room when this one's playing, but I can't, for the tears... everone's so involved on all the important levels, and WHAT a great piece too!
Yes and thankfully there are many more just like James, learning and honing their skills at singing / leading this wonderful music. He does a fantastic job and will continue, I'm sure! GOOOO James!
What a fantastic video. It is as if you are witnessing a defining moment in the life of a child. Imagine if we all had the experience of directing a huge choir at that age. James' parents have given him a wonderful gift by exposing him to this music and supporting him in this. May he continue to lead at Sacred Harp singings for many decades to come, and pass this wonderful music on to his children some day.
James Eldridge, the young many leading the class, isn't looking at his book and knows exactly who to bring in and when!! Would that I could lead like that.
I do believe I heard some echos of the Convention singing over here in South Dakota on Sunday afternoon!

This is Coy Ivey's signature song. It's such a joy to see him lead this at Henagar with his grandchildren.
