Novmeber 2006
The killing of 19 civilians and wounding of 40 more at Beit Hanoun was the biggest single loss of life since the Intifada began. Holes are appearing in the IDF's version of events.
According to the IDF, the shots all came from one canon which erroneously fired into a building because of a computer error. But survivors dispute this. "There were many shells coming from different directions," says one woman angrily. "What they say is a lie." One of the biggest questions is why the Israelis continued firing for 30 mins. The IDF claims soldiers at a nearby observation tower were too busy looking for Qassem rockets to notice anything wrong. But amateur footage shows heavy plumes of smoke and wailing sirens coming from what was clearly a residential area.
