CNN needed an anecdote for its story on *Shady College Loan Profit-Sharing*. The poster child of student loan debt obliged.

  • OK, hardass. So what's a fair penalty for that error in judgment? And if an 18 yr old is considered too immature to drink alcohol, then why aren't they considered too immature to take out student loans and pick their career track?

  • The same thing is happening to small and major chain vocational schools. I'd highly recommend you do your own research and shop around. It's a vicious market and you need to be more vicious as a consumer. The best lesson I learned the school of hard knocks.

  • Even if you picked a major that wasn't the greatest. Nobody deserves this bullshit.

  • Ill owe about 70,000 after im done with my masters in engineering. Not too big a deal in the long run ill just be delayed a few years in buying a house. But dont borrow like I did unless you plan to make an equal amount in a year. Dont borrow 50k unless your starting salary will be 50k a year.

  • Don't pay simple!

  • Yo hayate, what're u fucking 17? Pull your head out of your ass, it's 2011, not 1971, 100k is pocket change

  • With the interest and her probably making the minimum monthly payments, her loan will be more than double when it is payed off.

She could have made more by going to a vocational school and become a secretary. Then she could have found herself a good man to marry and got a nice big house.

  • @HayateAzekura I want to know what her major is...most likely psychology or something.

  • @HayateAzekura I agree. You should be responsible at 18. Even if you have never had a credit card or any financial responsibility, you should know that 100G is a lotta money. I just don't get it. Plus, this Rachel chick seems kinda self-entitled and bratty.

  • @alstonpmaroon Yeah I agree, who the hell borrows 100,000 like it's nothing. It doesn't take an I.Q of no more than a rock. To see a red flag. I thought by age 18 you were an adult and you are fully responsible for your choices.

  • Who the hell asked her to borrow $100,000 in the first place?? That's already FAR too much to borrow for an education. I don't care HOW you slice it. She should have done her OWN research before taking out such astronomical loans. Sounds like a lack of personal responsibility to me.
