I slowed down the last part of a video I shot on 14 December 2008 in Sutter Creek of Tom Brier playing "Redneck Rag" with Julia Riley (flute), Mark Meeker (tuba) and Kitty Wilson (percussion), and was surprised at how "normal" the half speed looked.

Then I watched it again in real time and found that it peculiarly looked sped up, even though it wasn't!

So I threw this little video together in order for you to experience the same phenomenon.

  • What was that racket in the background?

  • @Huffinearts The washboard player was just off shot to the right -- closer to me than the piano, so it got picked up rather loudly.

  • Wow it sure does. That kind of playing has got to wear you out!

  • Tom does mix in some slower numbers to give himself respite. How he manages to play as much as he does sometimes is amazing. I've only really seen him stop for good when there was blood on the keyboard (more than once!). Even at this year's WCRF he had a finger bandaged but still partook of the afterglow jam session Sunday night.

  • HAHA YOU CAN BARELY EVEN SEE HIS LEFT HAND

  • @Keeper1st I see. Tom is amazing: I'd have ragtime parties nearly every night to if I was surrounded by such friendly talent.
