I love the Bond films, but certain moments that I've noticed don't seem to have been spotted by others. Here's my attempt to make these moments more public.

  • Ok, while you are at it fix the smile on the Mona Lisa. This was Maurice Binder's decision. He was the one who always did the gun barrel and the opening credit sequences from Thunderball to Licence to Kill.

If you listen carefully, the music hits a down note as the circle wipe disappears.

Just something different the film makers wanted to do by making us jump into the scene. It was never a mistake.

  • I'm gutted they airbrushed out Mona's mustache. :)

Yes, it's was Binder's decision, but one that is inconsistent with the other films - that's I find mysterious. He was well known (according to John Glen's autobiography) for bringing in his footage very late, sometime the day before the film's premiere. I wondered if this would explain why the optical effect was never finished. Or maybe you're right, it's an artistic decision.

  • what is the name of the remix to the james bond theme here?

  • It's by a band called The Ventures.

  • Didn't get fixed because the evil SPECTRE agents were behind it! LoL.

My whole family loves your Bond Mysteries :)

  • That's very sweet of you, 1CutieGirl. Thank your 1CutieFamily for me. And there's plenty more to come...

  • IMHO, this isn't a mistake.

The mistake was hiring Bill Conti to do the music... ah-bah-ZINNNNNGGGGGG!!

But, seriously, his "score" (if you MUST call it that) is the least fitting of Bond next to Hamlisch's TSWLM music... most of which was just plain lifted from other composers (stupid references to other things through music) and even makes the music from NSNA make sense... now THAT's pretty bad!

This jump-cut was just to match the beat in the music... and it was a dumb choice.

  • Replace Bill Conti's score, and I'll sleep at night too.

  • Subliminally this special scene is a hinted from the title itself--- "For Your Eyes ONLY".

    Sorry for the double reply.

  • I agree with RaftCoveProductions that it is most likely one of those rare deviations in the style to give emphasis on a very special scene-- Bond visiting the grave of his beloved wife. For once we see Bond/Moore not as a witty gentleman but as a grieving husband.

  • No, Binder finished the titles ahead of schedule on this film since he had to have Sheena Easton in it and needed her to fit in her busy schedule.

Bill Conti had already added his music to the film including the gun barrel, Binder wanted to do something different, so he made the iris wipe pop and not open up.

  • Wow great restoration! This could be use in the new releases.

  • Damn you Ernst Stavro Blofeld!
