Dr. Fiehrer has spent 38 years serving his community and the Native American Blackfoot Nation. In 1972 he opened a private orthodontics practice in Helena, Montana, and dedicated one Wednesday a month to treating a school bus full of Native American children. No fees were charged for the treatment or for the bus ride from Browning to Helena. He treated over 350 children and sometimes treated second and third generations. For his service, he has been inducted into their tribe. He has received awards for his service to his profession and the community, commissioned an artist to depict a Blackfoot ceremony and funded the production of a documentary on the Blackfoot people.
