Slow loris researcher Professor Anna Nekaris visits the illegal wildlife markets in Java Indonesia to see if the protected slow loris is for sale. Please remember even the best zoos find it difficult to breed lorises in captivity, and hardly any zoos hold lorises world-wide. 'Pet shops' in Japan, Russia and Poland claiming to sell lorises in nurseries almost inevitable obtain them smuggled from markets like this one.

So when you watch 'Loris with Umbrella,' 'Tickling Slow Loris,' or 'Slow Loris Eating Sticky Rice,' remember that thousands of animals died for that single animal to be filmed. Remember that even the best zoos have difficulty keeping lorises alive. Remember you are seeing a few seconds of video. Please don't support the illegal wildlife trade. All lorises are threatened with extinction in the wild.

why didn't you buy the loris' and release them or take them to the center?

sadly, as it says in the video, buying lorises only encourages illegal trade. They would only be replaced by others. The lorises were reported to the authorities, and it is up to them to be empowered to make the confiscations.

Because even the best zoos in the world have difficulty breeding these animals in captivity. There are more in three markets in one day than in the world's zoos. Also, we know the hunters, we know the supply chains, and we know they are all wild. Now we are trying to work with the authorities to prosecute but it there is huge corruption, and the sellers are extremely wealthy and powerful people.

See there's two sides to this. This is a very heartbreaking video, and I wish with all my soul this doesn't happen, but it's very hard to stop this without support. Yes you can call the sellers 'vile', 'evil' etc and they're acts are, yet they know no better.

Yet we are judging them behind our laptops on our houses, living in fairly wealthy countries. This is an LEDC. These people need to make a living so survival predominates morality, as it always has and always will, unfortunately.

You are clearly an asshole. This woman has done more for the slow loris than practically anyone on this planet -- in fact, she discovered a new, rare and endangered species last year. What have YOU done, besides watch a tickle video? She's also involved in a loris rescue center, but the reality is that once their teeth are cut out, the animals can no longer fend for themselves in the wild, and must remain in captivity for what's left of their life.

If she had saved those three loris's, sure that would've have helped a little but if you consider the large scale of this illegal trade it would have merely been a drop in the ocean. It would have also encouraged the brutes who do this to get more loris's because they'd still be making money from it. What needs to happen is that we need to stop pointing fingers and come together to do something about this. Give money to charities, protest whatever but buying a few lorises isn't the answer

Humans are so selfish it's ridiculous! The people who buy these animals see the pain that they go through and continue to feed the corruption just so they have a little 'toy' to play with, it makes me so angry!

Guilt and embarrasment is something humans only can fell. It's what seperating us humans from the rest of the animals. A dog does not feel embarrassed when it walks around naked? It doesn't feel guilt when the owner has to pick it's turd? What it may feel is pain and sadness. When it's owner dies it understands that he/she is gone. Humans can feel guilt for their actions, animals doesn't feel guilt.
