I remember watching a San Fransisco 49ers playoff game with my dad when I was young, probably the mid too late 80's. More than anything I remember the noise coming out of our TV. The fans where cheering so loud it sounded like they where going to blow our TV to pieces. It was a unending "WAAAWWAA WAAAAAWWWAAAA WAAAWWAAAAAA"!
You just dont hear cheering like that on a consistent basis in North America anymore.

I hope who ever that guy was on the Oilers bench with the giant hearing aid turned it down. He probably lost the rest of his hearing after that night.
I had to turn my speakers down because that crowd was so loud. It was a non-stop barrage of passionate noise.
Some fan bases are still that loud, but if people want to be totally honest, cheering at sporting events is not what it used to be. Im not saying the passion isnt there. You just dont hear raw, non-stop emotion like this anymore.
