Fjords of Norway, Geirangerfjord and Sunnylvsfjord Kayaking

Situated 236 km north northeast of Bergen, Ålesund 0:11 is adjacent to the Hjørund and Geiranger fjords.
The Geiranger fjord (Norwegian: Geirangerfjorden) 5:20 is a 15-kilometre long branch of the Storfjord (Great Fjord). The small village of Geiranger 6:42 is located at the end of the fjord where the Geirangelva river empties into it.
The fjord is one of Norway's most visited tourist sites and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005, although this status is now threatened by the disputed plans to build power lines across the fjord. A car ferry, which doubles as a sightseeing trip, is operated by Fjord1 Nordvestlandske. It runs lengthwise along the fjord between the small towns of Geiranger and Hellesylt 4:35.
The Geirangerfjord is under constant threat from the mountain Åkerneset which is about to erode into the fjord. A collapse would produce a tsunami, hitting several nearby towns including Geiranger and Hellesylt in about ten minutes.
The fjord is also host to several impressive waterfalls. The two most notable are the Seven Sisters and the Suitor (also called The Friar). The two falls face one another across the fjord, and the Suitor is said to be trying to woo the sisters opposite. Along the fjord's sides there lie a number of now abandoned farms.
The West Norwegian Fjords are characterised as the best geologically developed and preserved example of classic fjord landscape. The geology and ongoing erosional processes have provided a basis for the active development of ecological and biological processes as well as the development of traditional, in part extreme, land use that has not harmed the integrity of the natural site (see wiki).
