เหนือชั้น1000แปลก - สวนสนุกแนวธรรมะ Suoi Tien Par

In this episode of Neua Chan Phan Plaek, I've tripped across to Ho Chi Minh city in Vietnam to take a look at a fun park with a twist.

For those who have been following my language development progress over the years, you'd know that I dabbled in Vietnamese a couple of years back for a few weeks, then for another week or so during Miss Universe in Nha Trang in 2008. Well, this trip was a great opportunity to dust some of the cobwebs off of some of the language that I'd played with before and see if people actually understood me when I opened my mouth! During the clip here, you'll see me asking several questions in Vietnamese. This is a milestone for me. Although my level of Vietnamese is quite dismal at the moment, I really believe that if I stay there for a few weeks, it wouldn't take much to bring it up to par. Something just 'clicked' over this last trip, and I hope I'll be able to spend a lot more time there in the future!

Check out more about these and other language, cultural and mind adventures in my blog - http://stujay.blogspot.com

If you know of any extraordinary / amazing / bizarre people, places or things that you think would make a great story, send me an email and tell me about it. We might be able to make a trip out there and cover it for the show! - stujay@hotmail.com

  • I have recently visited suoi tien park but did not understand the history behind it until I watched this. As a vietnamese born overseas, I find this very inspirational. thanks for this video clip!

  • Thanks!... it's great to know that someone's got something from the showv:) ... i had a great time shooting it and found it fascinating to learn about Vietnam's history / culture and see how it differs from here in Thailand and other countries in the region.

It's also inspired me to get more serious about learning Vietnamese!

  • FOr some reason, I'm getting the comments coming into my inbox, but when I come to see them here, they're not appearing. In response to the question :

"Is Vietnamese grammar similar toThai?" -

The answer is YES. THere are so many similarities - in a lot of cases, it's a one to one translation from Thai. Even the vowel system and many so called 'non-chinese' words actually resemble the Thai words for the same thing.
