Video footage from around 1990 of a video-based trainable surveillance system developed by Dean Pomerleau at Carnegie Mellon University. The system uses an artificial neural network to learn which activities in the scene being monitored deserve a warning, and which are harmless variations due to changes in scene illumination of movement in harmless areas of the scene. The technology demonstrated in the video was patented as US Patent #5,091,780 (full text - http://www.google.com/patents?id=u2chAAAAEBAJ).
