A general transistor should check like two diodes between B and E and B and C and should show no shorts or leakage between C and E. A PNP transistor will conduct with the meter lead in reverse of an NPN. Check the transistor using Diode Check on your digital multimeter.

  • LCD TV, look for cracked solder joints around power transistors or other large lead parts by rocking part while looking at the bottom of the board. Bad electrolytic capacitors are a common problem too. Otherwise buy a new board or TV.

  • thank you sir for i have learned something today :)

  • @shango066 Wow, thanks for responding. I appreciate it. I did end up opening the TV to find a blown fuse on the power board. I found that it blows when it gets plugged in to power. Even though it's not in the TV.

  • Your videos are very thorough and I appreciate you taking the time to make them. I'm going to be trying to repair the powersupply board in my LCD TV soon and I was wondering if you could give me some pointers?

  • Very nice description. This helped me a ton in diagnosing a transistor from my guitar amp, thanks!
