The UITP (International Association of Public Transport) Pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai China opened on 1 May and will be welcoming visitors until 31 October. The intriguing design of the UITP Pavilion features slopes, tracks and roads, hoping to spark visitors' interest. The idea behind the stand is to illustrate sustainable interaction between humans, nature and public transport, and to portray how public transport is closely linked with the environment. Public transport elements are also integrated into the design.
The history of UITP over the past 125 years is on display, along with success stories of integration between public transport and urban planning. Members have also displayed their achievements and strategic plans. An important part of the Expo activity is the Study Tours organised between May and October, and the UITP Honor Day on 28 August.
Meanwhile, UITP was featured on Chinese television channels CCTV 1, 2 and 4 and on CCTV News in a special programme airing on 30 April and 1 May to celebrate the launch of the Expo in China.
