Head Of The Class does "Hair" (Part One)

Found this on an old VHS tape. The late '80s/early '90s sitcom "Head Of The Class" starred Howard Hesseman as Charlie Moore, an out-of-work actor who gets a job teaching English to the Honors Students at a New York City high school. Each year they did a school musical directed by Mr. Moore - the first year they did "Grease", the second year they did "Little Shop of Horrors", and the third year they did "Hair" (in which Mr. Moore had appeared on Broadway, a point that was frequently brought up in the series.)

A running plotline was that before Mr. Moore arrived, a dorky student named Manfred always got the lead. John Cameron Mitchell, later of "Hedwig And The Angry Inch", plays him. Also featured is Robin Givens, former wife of Mike Tyson (in the "White Boys" trio) and Rain Pryor, daughter of Richard (she plays Sheila.)

This is the second part of a two-part episode where the evil head of the English department, played by Elaine Stritch, tries to shut down the production by threatening to flunk all of her students who appear in it. (I don't have the first part - I happened to tape this off a syndicated rerun on Channel 50 in Chicago nearly 20 years ago and totally forgot about it. I can't believe I even have this.)

Thanks for posting this. As a HOTC fan, I was wondering when a Season 4 episode would pop up, and you just posted one. Oh, and my favorite character was (and will always be) Simone Foster, who I always thought was the prettiest girl in the class. She's still beautiful to me.
