I love how flowing andrea's game was!
-
evert has more grand slam championship wins than federer which i think is amazing.
-
Actually that record is is 125 straight from 73 -79, and 197-1, is from 73-81, when she lost in the 1981 French semi to Hana.

Chris Evert holds lots of records.....197-1 match streaks on clay from 1973 - 1979. That incredible! Not to mention she also holds the highest winning percentage(90%) ever male or female!

Chrissie had everything, consistancy, great shot making, a brilliant tennis mind (probably the best we had ever seen) style, grace, beauty, she would have to be one of the greatest sports on the court that we have ever seen, her popularity speaks for itself! She was popular all over the world wherever she played and was usually the crowd favourite! Thanks for posting this match.

Andrea's shots look to have more sting, because she is using graphite, and Chris is still paddling away with wood.

I say it was her sidespin backhand because you couldn't tell if she was going to hit flat, drop, or a topspin. Not only that you couldn't tell if she was going cross or down-the-line. The forehand was great but less disguise and susceptible to errors.

The first 100% graphite rackets were kind of primitive--they had stiffness and power, but were heavy and vibrated. Then Dunlop came out with one called the 200g that was injected with foam--one of the first lighter weight power rackets. Andrea dropped out of tennis too early--she is playing with the Wilson ultra pws here i think. Chris was a hold out for a long time. When I played i used a Dunlop max fort--beautiful, but it didn't let you get away with anything.

I agree. I hit extensively with wood as a kid and then changed from metal to eventually graphite and it made everything easier with the larger sweet spot. It's interesting that in this match, Andrea is using a graphite and Chris is using a wood racket. At least I think Andrea is using graphite. I imagine that it was only a short window of time where we saw wood vs graphite in the sport. I wonder why Chris decided to stay with the wood at this point?
Thanks for posting this. I much prefered Women's tennis ,back in the day. I was a huge Chrissie fan.
