@Rondiddlyon : true: I was absolutely stunned to see that most bike paths there are bus lanes....

@zenpaganwarrior the bike is king everywhere in the netherlands!! healthy, fast, inexpensive and you never have to look for a parking space, you just put it on the stand and lock it. never a traffic jam. what can you possibly want more? we are actually the only country in the world with more bicycles than inhabitants, which is also weird coz you can only ride one bike at a time.

@finland28 True now--I wonder what will happen when gas goes to $6/gallon or so. history is that any time an oil exporting country goes through war or revolution, it has a decline in oil exports. True of Iran, kuwait, Iraq, Egypt (so far), Libya...

Makes me want to live in the Netherlands, being a cycling fanatic...in Amsterdam (and most of the Netherlands, it looks like) the bike is king.

I absolutely love the bike lanes! Especially the tunnel part. I am so jealous of the Netherlands. Maybe one day Hawaii will have this type of bike lanes :(

Great videos Markenlei :)
Only trouble is they have made me jealous - cycling in London is almost suicidal comapred to Holland!

I love your videos of bicycling in the Netherlands. Have you thought of speeding up your videos, perhaps by 50% to reduce their length? I would probably watch more if they were shorter.
This @ 4:50 is near the neighbourhood where I grew up! Now I live in Utrecht Amsterdamsestraatweg.. Such a long street, where the Dutch love to cycle including me.. :D

I love the priority to the cycle lane at junctions, it'll make cycle lanes more attractive over here, if you are in a motor waiting to join another road you have to slow and give way, why not to the cycle lane next to it.
I've noticed a few scooters in the cycle lanes, is that allowed?

Not only allowed, even mandatory. But only the 'slow type scooter' (snorfiets) as the law calls them. Their max. speed is 25kph (15.5mph) so almost equal to a bike.
