  • Great playing! Bravo! Really excellent job. How old are you? Who is your teacher? Great to see young bass players at this level!

  • Thank you very much for the compliments. I am 18 and in my first year of study at the Curtis Institute of Music with Hal Robinson and Edgar Meyer, but my teacher a the time of this video was John Pellegrino.

  • well done, especially if you do have the ear to notice the small flaws in your performance. i do not mean to be rude or patronizing, but that kind of trained ear is needed to make real progress.

If you can keep it up and not get demoralized (I did) you have the makings of a fine bass player.

for what it is worth the 40th anniversary of my taking up the bass is coming up next month, 1972, my first year in high school

  • Oh my gosh now I want to learn this immediately!

  • Awesome job! When did you start playing? It seems as though your mind was steeped in music from a young age.

  • Great playing. Love it!!

  • What year/make is this bass? You play it incredibly well, and to think of how young you were when you performed this..... O.O

  • that is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! amazing and that semiquaver passage towards the end (after the trills after the cadenza) was faster, crisper, more accurate and more clear than streichers recording

  • Outstanding job. I can tell that you have a great future. I'm also a bass player and hope you and others get to play on the big theaters. We need more bass!!! Just one thing: you seemed to be a little shy at the beginning. I liked your attitude at the end. Maybe you can use some of that over the whole piece. It's not crucial but it's entertaining to see someone that can play as great as you and express those feelings at the same time. Good luck.

  • What did you play for your audition at Curtis? I am a freshman hoping to some day get in to curtis, so i'm just curious.

  • John's a great teacher, I worked with him a bit two summers ago! Fantastic job on this concerto and congrats on getting into Curtis. It's really hard to get into there especially considering that both Hal and Edgar play French bow
