And if you REALLY want to see the similarities with Spielberg's A.I., check out the 2001 anime adaptation of Kikaida, which is a more or less direct adaptation of the original 1972 manga. All of the complexities and emotions presented in A.I. were done by Shotaro Ishinomori 30 years before Spielberg's ripoff -- and Ishinomori did it much better. Lucas = talentless hack; Spielberg = Big time Daddy issues... it's in every one of his fucking movies.

Lucas and Spielberg did nothing but steal ideas and even scenes straight from a Japanese TV show called Kikaida after seeing it play on Hawaiian TV during vacation in 1976. Lucas is more blatant in his plagiarism, however. Darth Vader is a direct ripoff of one of the series' most popular characters: Hakaider. Hakaider is a black-colored cyborg who later adopts a cape and has a transparent dome housing the brain of the android Kikaider's "father": Dr. Komyoji.

@sirdaveysockrocker They weren't aliens, they were mecha. Probably meant to show that the Mecha always had more humanity than the humans ever did.

@hanseykemmerer no, just realistic. its not the best travelers tale ever and david gets whiny at points. Plus it had two endings. I thought it ended when they waited in the water, but NO super aliens show up and grant wishes. THEN it ends with david lying there with basically a dead body. they must have faded to black just before she shit herself. Stoic, gruff voiced teddy was the only shining light. Joe was ok too.
