Mesa Fire Department recognizes Good Samaritans.
In the early hours of 8/4/11 Jason Hittinger, a paper deliveryman, spotted a great deal of smoke coming from an attic of a home in Mesa, AZ. After calling 911, he knocked at the door and rang the bell to warn potential occupants. Unbeknownst to Mr. Hittinger, he woke up an elderly woman and potentially saved her life as a result of his actions. His early 911 call also gave firefighters an early enough notification that lead to her home being saved from total loss.
Suzanne O'Rourke, a registered nurse, was on her way to work on a morning in late July when she witnessed a motorcycle accident on the San Tan Freeway. Suzanne initiated CPR in an attempt to save the motorcyclist's life showing her willingness to try and help a person in need.
