This song is always dedicated to my brother Ed, who took me in the troop when I was just a pup, brought me along from green amature to working pro. We've played nearly 12,000 nights together, now. Whenever I say "We" in the song, it means Ed and I, with all due respect to any and all other musicians we have or will play with. Thanks, Ed.
We all play our last gig someday, for whatever reason. We get frustrated, get married, get a day job, can't find anyone to play with, get sick, get injured, can't get anymore gigs, lose interest, lose the drive to do it, lose heart, lose faith, get too old or just die. That's what I wrote this song about. I hope my last gig hasn't come yet. Thanks to my friend Robert Mckinney, he kept this song alive for years. I only had the chorus and he kept after me to finish it. Thanks, man.
