Animated caveman Zog demonstrates that things which change energy from one form to another are called appliances. The human body is an appliance; it changes chemical energy from food into kinetic energy — movement. A light bulb is also an appliance; it changes electricity into light energy. Some appliances are more efficient than others. For instance, an incandescent light bulb tends to heat up after several hours of use. Because the heat is not used, it is considered a waste of energy. Fluorescent bulbs stay cooler and, because they generate less heat, they are more efficient appliances. Zog finds out how different forms of energy are used and adapted by people.
In videos produced by David Christianson, Zog
ponders basic questions about physical science, providing plenty of laughs along with clever and complete answers. 10 minutes, color.
