Mildred Bailey (February 27, 1907 -- December 12, 1951) was a popular and influential American jazz singer during the 1930s, known as "Mrs. Swing". Her number one hits were "Please Be Kind", "Darn That Dream", and "Says My Heart".
I first heard MIldred Bailey on two cuts that were on an old Count Basie album I found in the early 70's and for years I assumed she was a woman of color. I think in ranking my favorite singers of that era she would be number two, right behind Billie Holiday.
She is a woman of color; Indigenous.
