its a toy called a hex bug u can buy at radioshack. its like a toothbrush head with a vibrating motor in it. he stuck a flat cockroach image on top. the "bristles" make it go in a sort random directions. this one liked to turn left...

i also saw an injured cockroach at the mall once. i was thinking to filming it, got the camera and all. follow it around.. i thought it'll be funny. um rather that do that, i just let it passed by.. cuz by doing that i just project myself as a person who dont have life. or boyfriend/girlfriend.
