And, almost one hour later, my laptop alive again, after doing a "reflow".
Heated chipset up to 180C, let it cool to 100, repeat to 180C and let it cool. Clean, assemble, and run :)

I used a digital hot air station by Atten.

  • P.s. I cleaned and re-applied Artic Silver 5 too all chips. I can strip, burn and rebuild in 2 hours so not too much of an issue. Shame really as the G1S is a very good gaming machine. Running L.A. Noire, MW3, Duke Nuke Em Forever (unistalled as it's crap). On medium settings and it stiil flows well and is very playable...

  • @johnniegeeee my Asus failed again after a lot of months. I've been busy, so i haven't made time to do the "procedure" again :(

Hope to have some time next year, to try and change the chip. Its a great machine, i don't like it sitting on my desk. (although it looks cool)

  • And it died again 2 weeks later ;) Replacing the chip is the only way to fix this problem. I usually replace it with G84-603.

  • Thats a more definitive fix.

However, i did a reflow again (with IR station), and it has worked fine ever since.

I want to learn how to do reballing to replace chips. My brother's M1530 died , and that chip is screwed up.

  • @IvnSoft

Reballing and reflowing doesn't help, it will fail in a few weeks/months. The problem is inside the chip. The 1530 has the G84-600 chip like the G1 too. Replace with G84-601 or 603 and all problems will be solved :)

  • @DukeFawks , my Asus G1, doesnt have the G84-600 chip. Its not an Asus G1s. Thats why the reflow is just enough. (or reballing if you can).

In the case of the M1530, yes, it has the G84 chip, and theres no way to fix it besides replacing the chip. However, i dont have the skill yet (or the equipment) :(

  • I have a black and decker heat gun (paint stripper). I just get tin foil wrap it around a cereal card or any cardboard, Cut out where the gpu sits on the under side and blast it on low heat until the board is hot to the touch. Then switch to full heat and burn the hell out of it. I haven't actually timed it but belive me I can't touch the board for a good 10 minutes as its way too hot.

Put together and awayit goes. 1st run I was a little shy with the heat and it lasted 6 weeks, ...Let you know

  • I oven baked my girl's Macbook Pro 2008 mono that has the nvidia 8600M GT integrated card. The first time work for about 2 weeks, & then I realized that I had to bake the fucker a bit more at higher temps. So I did, to the point that the solder around the chip got refreshed. I put the laptop back, cleaned the air vents, turn it on and bang, graphics worked. Its been months now & the mac runs like new again ever since. saved me $300 for a new mobo! Ofcourse Arctic Silver 5 Therm. paste helps!

  • @IvnSoft

The G1 has the Go7700 which is also a bad chip. All the same issue with Nvidia GPUs from 2005-2008. It will fail again, just wait a bit longer ;)

  • didnt see it
