@Shipwright1918 Re: 1. Irwin Allen had the same thing done (The camera slightly moving a bit) when the Jupiter 2 was in flight in "Lost in Space" which John Williams also scored! (For the most part.)

@joeystrab what do you mean by 5.1?

I was a kid of 10 when I seen this movie for the first time. I had nightmares about it for a few days. But it was worth it for the pleasure of seeing such a wonderful movie.. Thank you for posting this theme.

Im 51, and I saw the film at the college theatre in 1972 in san diego Calif.
the film score was alway's really moving to me ,
it was then, and it still is now.
It was a story of impossible odds; and bravery and courage.
and also sad ness and dispair over lost loved one's.
all In alll,,, In incredible film.
wished more film's were like this at present,
but different time different actor's different writer's,

I haven't heard this in 35 years. Hearing it again now just gave me the shivers and made the movie zip by in my mind
There are not many composers other than John Williams that can do that

I remember as if it had been yesterday when they suddenly switched the ordinary frame to wide screen and hi fi stereo sound ,which in those days was" the state of the art thing". It was so real!- It won the special effects Oscar at the time. However ,in the new Poseidon film ,is more convincing the ilussion of a 90 feet wave.

I remember being captivated by this theme in the movie theaters in 1972(?), me being about 13 years old. Like many here I searched for the theme and this is the closest thing to the original. There's a version from a different orchestra floating around that I heard a while back with very disappointing string arrangements, but this one captures every the dramatic nuance from the movie, very goose-bumpy!

You're quite right, although you've left out a few Hollywood tricks that they used to sell the illusion the the Queen Mary/Poseidon was at sea.
1.The camera was rocked from side to side in most of the pre-capsize interiors and exteriors to give the impression that the ship was heeling to and fro.
2.The QM's funnels and aft engine room had smoke/steam generators installed to give the impression that the boilers/engines were operating, similar generators were used for Titanic (1997)

John Williams adds another 20% to any movies worth
Agreed! John Williams understood the scope of it!

If they ever consider rerecording the Poseidon Adventure score in the near future (since no good copy exists), my vote is definitely for this orchestra. This is the best variation I've heard to date.
