Well, in the production when Max sings "Betrayed", I think right before he gets to "step 4" he stops and says "Intermission!", then stands around for about 10 seconds looking a bit confused on the stage, hahaha.
It corresponds with when intermission occurs in the story which (I think) is right before "step 4" when Max and Leo are auditioning actors.
Unfortunately you don't get an intermission in a movie so it wouldn't have made sense to put that in.

i need to watch the movie cause i love BETRAYED only betrayed but i wanna see Nathan Lane being hot and amazing. ps im 16 he is still hot according to my standards

in the film this scene is done with Max Bialystock giving an outstanding performance in his cell, acting out all that he is singing about. ^_^ its a good movie, you should see it
