Recently, people have been trying to tell me that natural foods are all alkaline. I thought I'd test for myself...
(Sorry about the quality of the video, by the way. It's awkward holding your phone in one hand, and trying to do the experiment with the other!)
What are these strips and where can you buy them?

@2012Wordsmith They are called universal indicator papers. They are sold by laboratory suppliers, but you can also get them on places like eBay. Seach for 'indicator paper' or 'universal indicator paper'. They are pretty cheap; a book of papers will cost you about £1 or £2. You probably want the ones with a wide PH range, because they will show you everything from strongly acidic to strongly alkaline.

ok sir, the lemon is acidic yes. to begin with as found in nature. THE POINT PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO MAKE IS THAT WHEN IT'S PROCESSED BY YOUR BODY IT HAS AN ALKALIZING EFFECT. you see sir, it's all in how your body uses it. not on what it is to begin with.

That wasn't the claim that was made to me. The claim was specifically that lemons are alkaline. When I demonstrated that this was not the case, the claim morphed into something about alkalising effects.
More interesting is to ask about the *evidence* that lemons have an alkalising effect, and the *evidence* that this is necessary for good health. Our bodies can control acidity, mainly by excreting it. This suggests that food pH may not be all that important.
