In a government, if one person becomes corrupt and starts to change how the government works, the whole system becomes corrupted eventually. Then a greater positive change or revolution in needed or everyone is screwed. Think of that on a world scale. I would rather be divided and sovereign with my fate in my hands than united with my fate in other's hands.
