This is my most recent race with HMSA at Thunderhill raceway just outside of Willows California on March 8th. The race track is very nice and has been recently paved. Turn 3 (the right after the long left) is very off camber as is the right hand corner coming off the uphill/downhill turn. I was hitting about 8,300 rpm in 5th at the end of the start finish straight which is about 130 mph and as fast as I have gone in my Lotus 23.

  • The nice thing about having a Hewland racing gearbox is that you don't have to deal with the final drive, I can just replace the gear set to go faster. Yes, they will go about 145 to 150mph!!

  • I think you could use a taller rear axle ratio for the faster tracks.

I bet your 23B TC can better 145 mph on a long enough tstraight.

They do at Elkhart Lake / Road America....

  • Yes we were grouped with a couple of FFords and one Formula B car along with a number of sports racers. It is a great track with lots of elevation changes and blind corner entries that you have to get used to. A very nice facility for the SF region of the SCCA.

  • Thunderhill is a good track, nice and fast =) who are you running with? I see a couple of vintage Formula Fords maybe?
