I took two pretty identical ProCo Turborats, and replaced the stock op amp with the LM308N chip in one of them. It's an extremely easy modification. Hopefully, you can hear the difference between the two. This is my first video and I'm no cinematographer. Feel free to IM any questions or comments.

  • LEMMING OF THE BDA! hhahahahah

anyways, nice video, now i realized the modified one aint so dry as the original one, and now it's another option to me. How much is the diference tween prices?

  • @TractorTheBassist Therein lies the issue. They aren't made with the LM308N chip any more. I'm not sure when they made the change, but on the Robert Keeley website they mention that in May, 2003 they ProCo started shipping with a different IC. So your choices are either buy a new (or used) TurboRat and mod the pedal yourself, or try to find one on the Evil Bay with the LM308N chip. Modding the TurboRat is incredibly easy. I'm actually working on a video that shows how to do it.

  • thanks a lot for the review :)

  • The difference in volume makes it difficult to judge. The 308n sounds to have some more gnarly growl.

  • I liked the modded one better. It seems that one can take some more low end... Yesterday I tried the ProCo RAT II unmodified and it kicks ass used with the bass. I already have a TS9 modded for bass with a Blender, but the RAT sounded even better.

  • @TheFantod 1. evil bay? HAHAH

    2. ok man, thanks for the info. i dont like to buy used gear, i prefer buying new and use it to using something someone's already used, so i 'd buy a new one and modify by myself, and i'm also used to modify things here at home (DIY RULES!), although i'd watch you walkthrough with pleasure. or i could buy another pedal, i dont know.

  • it would be better if this was on guitar.thanks anyway,I have a new version of turbo rat and I‘ve been wondering if the difference between the new copy and the lm308N version is that big.

  • thanks bro

  • Great, helpful video! Thanks for making it.
