Mormon, LDS Church Solemn Assembly - The new First Presidency---Thomas S. Monson, Henry B. Eyring and Dieter F. Uchtdorf---were sustained by LDS Church members on April 5, 2008. http://www.lds.org/broadcast/gc/ This sustaining of Church leaders, known as a "solemn assembly," marks both their call to leadership and their sustaining. A solemn assembly is a sacred gathering of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (sometimes called Mormons) for a specific spiritual purpose, including the dedication of a temple or the sustaining of a new First Presidency and other divinely appointed Church leaders before the Lord.
Solemn assemblies have many historical precedents. To ancient Israel, the Lord called for a day of fasting and spiritual cleansing, and a day of assembling for special instruction and the receipt of ordinances. Solemn assemblies were held in conjunction with feast days, such as the Feast of the Tabernacles and the Passover ( Deut. 16: 8; Lev. 23: 33-36) and, specifically, at the dedication of Solomon's temple (2 Chr. 5: 2-3).

Wow, that was so exciting. Is it even really "voting" if everyone knows everyone is going to sustain the prophet and the quorum of the 12? Does even matter if one or 10 or even 100 people stood up to oppose? No. There's no real democracy here, just a farce.
actually yes they were , (it's called in the bible both old and new test. ''CASTING LOTS) the vote is brought before the whole church just because the 12 prayed and recieved a revalation to call a person doesn't mean they do so without the rest of the church (one or afew can not work independant from the rest of the church ) in biblical time they wrote epistle's to each of their church bishops who brought the matter before each congregation and return their casting lot or vote
