The Municipality of Hinabangan in the Province of Samar, Philippines conducted its one day orientation program for the Hinabangan Tourism Council last August 7, 2009.
Mayor Alejandro N. Abarratigue, humbles himself that his initiative in developing the tourism program of the municipality can foster the image of the people of Hinabangan and its beautiful tourists spots, not only in the Philippines but to the entire world.
Mr. Nick D. Cinco of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Samar Provincial Office and Mr. Angelito Villanueva of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Samar Island Biodiversity Project (DENR-SIBP) conducted the orientation with participants who are members of the Sangguniang Bayan of Hinabangan, the heads of offices of the local government unit of Hinabangan and representatives from the private sectors.
The Department of Tourism failed to attend the whole day event, however, the major inputs to the orientation were the presentations of a model ordinance creating the Hinabangan Tourism Council, its legal basis, and the proposed Capability Building and Planning Workshop on Sustainable Community Based Eco-Tourism Training.
Mr. Villanueva, presented the potential of the eco-tourism program for the municipality relative to the Samar Island Natural Park Program.
