Using a pencil lead as a light.

I was a welder for 25 years, often when we wanted to take something apart we'd use an arc gouge to do it. It's a thick graphite rod hooked into an electrod clamp, same as you'd use to hold a welding rod. You can cut out an old weld using it with very fine deep cuts that leave the rest of your work intact. Gotta have a steady hand or you can really tear up your work, they cut HOT!

It a vacuum, it would work identical to a light bulb. ;)

I don't use this account anymore. Talk about coincidence I just randomly chanced upon this video I posted 2 years ago! you can use this as a light if you connect it to a lead acid battery. I'm using only a 1 amp 20v power supply! The electrodes are bicycle tire spokes. Even though the floor is cemented, the graphite rod left marks on the floor! The graphite I'm using is the ones that you get for 'pen-pencils' - 0.5mm graphite rod.
