Juju music legend, King Sunny Ade, salutes KOKORO before he performed at a function.
This is one of the last public performances by this street music legend @ the Lagos Island Club, on December 24, 2007. (Video clip courtesy of "Musi-JOE!).

Benjamin Aderounmu, better known as 'Kokoro', the unmistakable and widely- known tambourine-playing minstrel, died in a Lagos hospital on Sunday, January 25, 2009, a month to his 84th birthday.

  • When the history book of Yoruba street percussion is finally written, KOKORO will feature prominently in it. - RIP.

  • @planetolusola Na true talk. Thanks.

  • ** FROM E-MAIL RECEIVED about KOKORO**

Kokoro and his music, a one man gang, made me so nostalgic. My initial contact with him was about middle forties. He walked the length and breath of Eko, though he was visually challenged, and was often a nocturnal visitor at our house on Catholic Mission St , the site of the present Lagos City Council. I am sorry he passed, may his soul find perpetual rest.
