@MikeBlitzMag Yes Mike, I agree. I saw U2 back in December last year, and there was no way three instruments could make that sound, and yes it does make one feel a bit cheated and taken for a musical ride!!
.I have so much more respect for the band Police, who just play with what they have, and do very well!!. Ditto for also a band called Free. I saw them in 1971, and they were brilliant! (3 instruments and lead vocalist only).
@MikeBlitzMag The Monkees were just an act when they started out, but learned their instruments over time!. This was because Michael Nesmith was angry that he and Peter Tork were the only two who had any skills in that area!.
The DC5 could never replicate their studio sound live, and Dave was a better businessman, than he ever was a drummer.Today of course the DC5 could sound just like they did in the studio. U2 have mastered it perfectly!
@CANARVONKID I try not to invoke negativity in a public setting such as this one. But that has to be the most uninformed and blatantly factually inaccurate comment I've ever seen on You Tube. The facts simply do not support what you are saying. Instead of believing whatever the revisionist hippie history press would have you believe, do a little research instead. You're obviously smart enough to be able to string a sentence together. So do yourself a favor and seek the truth on this one.
If the Monkees were an "act", then who is is that has been touring for the past 45 years and releasing about two dozen albums? Why it's the Monkees themselves! How about that?! Amazing what you can learn by doing a little research instead of believing whatever the revisionist hippie era press would have had you believe. By the way, hats off to the Dave Clark Five for telling the plastic so-called counter culture where to go in this one. Love it!!
@smwcrl73 Are you speaking from experience when you use the word Mediocre?
Every band of the 60's jumped on the psychadelic bandwagon, including The Rolling Stones. The DC5's musical offerings during this era was no better, nor any less than any of the British Invasion Bands.
You were either too young to know, or probably not even born!?

@CANARVONKID Backing tapes? Well, they seemed to work for the Steve Miller Band and ELO. Kind of takes the joy out of playing live, though....

I wonder if I will be ever able to take Dave Clark seriously?
The DC5 were precursers to The Monkees and The Archies, and were more of an Act than a Band!
