On April 25, 2009, Haala performed a traditional folkloric dance, which is called Samri in Kuwait, Raks Nasha'at in the UAE, and which we in America call Khaliji.

I would like to thank Amani Jabril for introducing me to this beautiful dance, and for creating the first 3 minutes of choreography just for me! :)

I would also like to thank the great Souhail Kaspar for working with me one-on-one to fine-tune my movements so they are more authentic to the Kuwait region.

So all credit goes to them for the good parts of this dance, and any mistakes are wholly my own :)

Music: Laylah, performed by Souhail Kaspar and Naser Musa from the CD Khaliji (edited down due to time constraints for the show).

  • I love this so much that I bought a thobe and if you do not mind will try to do your dance justice, by emulating your style.

You are elegant and refined yet totally feminine. Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @molarmama5 Thank you so much for your kind comments! I'm so glad you enjoyed this dance.

What I love so much about Middle Eastern dance is that it allows each person's unique personality to shine through in their dance.

I wish you all the best with your own dancing!

  • Hi Dina! Thanks for dropping by to view my video :)

In answer to your question - the music comes from the CD "Khaliji" by Naser Musa and Souhail Kaspar, which I highly recommend!

The song Layla seems to be a very beloved song in the Gulf region and I for one have really fallen in love with it.

I was very privileged to perform this live with Mr. Kaspar, Rachid Halihal, and other musicians in April '09 . (Alas, no video of that show!)

    Best wishes,

    Haala

  • A wonderful performance! The dancer is restrained but displays an elegance and sense of strength at the same time. Wonderful costume. Very beautiful, indeed!

  • Hello Haala!

I like your dance. the music I would not have guessed to be for this style of dance, but I am not from the Gulf, so I might be absolutely wrong and apologize for the case!
