This video contains underwater footage of Atlantic Salmon in the St. Mary's River in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. This footage was captured by Lake Superior State University's Aquatic Research Lab (www.lssu.edu/arl) in September of 2008. For more information about the St. Mary's River, Sault Ste. Marie, or the fishing opportunities on the St. Mary's River, contact Captain Travis White at the St. Mary's Guide Company (www.whitesguidedfishing.com).
Itd be worth a try, especially considering that the Atlantic Salmon are surface oriented fish. I wish I could provide you with more info on the Detour fishery, but Im much more familiar using light spin fishing and fly fishing techniques for these salmon once they enter the river. If you do have any other specific questions feel free to shoot me another comment.

I havent heard any reports from Detour yet this season, but I know that the Atlantic Salmon are usually taken consistently from late May through June. Most folks troll using downriggers trailed by spoons and flies. From my experience on the St. Marys River, I think that one might be just as successful flatlining diving plugs such as Rapalas or Hot-n-Tots.
